Custom In-Ground Pool Construction

In-ground pool construction projects are multifaceted, and you’ll need an experienced, professional team to get the job done properly. At Waterside Pools Inc., we’re with you during every step of the pool construction process. Please spend a few moments to view our photos and descriptions, and they should help you to better understand the entire construction process.

The Pool Construction Process

Our team begins the pool construction process by learning about your ultimate  expectations, specifications, and generally about your wants and needs. To ensure an ideal pool design for your backyard, we will work very diligently with you on the particulars.

After design completion, we will draw up the engineering plans along with all the information and paperwork needed to put in for a construction permit. The time spent in this phase will vary from city to city, but once we have secured a permit, we may begin the actual construction phase.

The Procedural Steps

The following steps are typical for most projects:

Layout/Dig/Steel

  • First, the pool is laid out, formed with wood on the ground, and elevations set.
  • Then, excavating is skillfully and carefully completed.
  • All under-plumbing will now be installed (Drains, EZ Flow Jets, etc.)
  • Our reinforced steel cage is built with #3 size rebar at 10″ O.C. (which surpasses code by about 20% more steel). This creates STRENGTH!
  • Once the cage is constructed to our high standards, and all the proper bonding is in place, we contact the city or county to do an inspection.
  • After passing the inspection, we move on to the next steps.

Shoot Shell

  • Gunite or Shotcrete (concrete based materials), is “shot” onto the rebar cage to specific thicknesses. This is the monolithic shell of the pool and spa, along with the steps, benches, and sun shelves.
  • Our pools and spas have a Lifetime Structural Warranty.

Plumbing

  • All of our plumbing is built with schedule 40 (or schedule 80) pipe.    We DO NOT use FLEX PIPE in our pool and/or spa scenarios.
  • Pressure testing is completed a minimum of 2 times during the construction process to ensure quality.

Tile

  • All of our pool shells are waterproofed before tile is installed.
  • Laser levels and/or water level techniques are used in order to achieve precision elevation points and workmanship quality.
  • Once pool tile is installed, grouting is done to finish out the phase.

Coping and Decking

  • Many different types of coping and decking materials are available. We pride ourselves on being diverse in all the potential options.
  • The crews will use leveling devices on all decks to ensure accurate leveling and pitching for proper drainage.
  • Some of the deck options are; Concrete style decks, Pavers, Natural Stone, Porcelain and more….  
  • If chosen, coping bricks or stones can be set on and around the top perimeter beam of the pool and spa.
  • A couple different methods are used when installing Paver or Natural Stone decks. They can also be set over a compacted Rock, Shell, and Sand base material, or over a Concrete Sub-Deck type base structure.

Screen Enclosure or Fence

  • As you can imagine, there are many ways to construct screen enclosures and fencing. The engineering, materials, and workmanship will be of the highest caliber available in our industry.
  • According to Florida state law, everyone must install a screen or fence around the pool area. Further, they must install a Baby Fence, Window and Door Alarms or Poolside Alarm to ensure safety.

Electrical

  • Every pool project at this phase will be completed to / per the National Electric Code.
  • At this point, we will install the safety features required per code mentioned previously (Baby Fence, Alarms, etc.). 
  • After installing the safety barriers, and once all the bonding and wiring connections are completed, we call in for the electrical and safety barrier inspection.
  • After passing the electrical and barrier inspection, we may begin the surfacing phase.

Interior Surface

  • All pool and spa shells are scraped, acid washed, prepped and cleaned out before surfacing.
  • We seal and waterproof around every return line, fitting, drain, light, and opening in the pool or spa to ensure that there are no leaks.
  • Interior surfaces are applied by hand. By using trowels, we can ensure a nice, smooth to touch finish.
  • There are several different surface types to choose from. These include Marcite, Diamond Brite, Florida Gem, Wet Edge, Hydrazzo, Pebble Tec, Stonescapes, and many more…..
  • Once surfaced, we start filling the pool immediately with filtered water to the proper level.
  • Once completely full of water, we start up the pumps and add the initial dosages of chemicals.
  • All warranties and guarantees are generally activated at this time of construction.

Irrigation/Sod/Landscaping

  • Waterside Pools Inc. now offers special “all-inclusive project packages” as an option for sod and irrigation replacement. We’ve already done the shopping, so you don’t need to spend the time or energy.

Final Inspections

  • Most municipalities will require a final survey of the property to close out the permitting of a project.
  • Requirements for final inspections will vary from city to city. Please speak to your consultant for details in your specific area.
